Sunburst Table - Quarter Sawn Oak

This round endtable has a sunburst effect. It is created by cutting wedges, like a pie, to enhance the grain as it flows out from the middle to the edges.

In this case, I used quarter sawn oak because of the tight and straight grain pattern. This resulted in a subtle but beautiful top that has a consistent pattern, but when you look closer, you see the unique grain of each wedge.

I used rift sawn oak to create the round edge and finished it with legs inspired by the curves of the Eiffel Tower.

The profile edge, base, and legs required nineteen pieces cut on the CNC Router. The pie-shaped top took twelve pieces that I cut using the table saw and a special jig I built just for this purpose.
