Challenge 1: He wanted a full-size mattress over a queen, which is definitely not common in bunk beds. The idea was to make space for a family - two adults and two kids - in one room. After multiple measurements, I created a design to make this work.
Challenge 2: Fit it into a room that contained baseboard heat, a window, a door, and a closet, leaving access to both sides of the bed without bumping into the heater or preventing the doors to the closet and bedroom from functioning.
Challenge 3: Build it in my shop and then deliver and assemble it on location.
So this became a Tinkertoy project. I built the bed in my garage then took it apart, applied the finish, and hauled the pieces to his condo where (with the help of my son) I re-assembled it. As to be expected, there were a few modifications that needed to be made, but it all worked out perfectly.
The bed is made from redwood, stained with Red Mahogany.
